Raise the Roof

We are off to a great start - now let’s care for the school. The rood needs sound insulation. This will provide a better learning environment.

“When one class starts to sing, they all sing!” Agnes describes the current challenge for the school. As a start, through the fundraising of Okulaba.org, desks and benches have been baught and the school is now open and teaching 44 students.

The ceiling does not provide a sheltered learning environment

But a lot remains to be done.

Through the shool’s own effort a well has been dug that provides fresh water. This also makes cooking school meals easier.

Each student gets tea in the break and a school meal, cooked mainly from ingredients of the adjacent farm that provides fresh food.

The school meal is an important part of the diet, sometimes the only regular meal.

Now the walls need to be plastered to keep the rain from entering the walls. Each classroom needs to get a ceiling to better soundproof it from the other classrooms. This way, when one class starts to sing, the others can continue working. If there is money remaining it will be used for school materials like posters, notebooks, markers.

These are our next priorities:

  • build the ceilings to provide sound insulation

  • plaster the building to preserve the walls

Our goal is to raise EUR 5000.— to let this important step become a reality. Please help us reach our goal, every amount helps.

If you can support Okulaba.org with a small regular amount - like some wonderful people are already doing - it will help us to make much needed investments into the school on a continous basis.
